probably wasn´t ippon, in the last repetition seemed to me that it was an inferior pontuation…

it’s not a ippon because he’s very far from the tatami normally there is mate no ?

    to chinoui:
“he’s very far from the tatami normally there is mate no ?”

Normally there is mate yes! but Tuvshinbayar began his technique in the center of tatami. that’s what counts. Although I’m not sure if it was really for ippon.

Classy judo from Tuvshinbayar who is just turned 23 years old. Japanese judokas are not very “familiar” with leg grabbing techniques so Keiji was not expected it. Well, ippon is ippon; the guy just fell on his lower back which is still ippon. Tuvshinbayar just went on winning all his 5 opponents. Tuvshinbayar is the true CHAMPION.

Also, congrats to Cejudo from USA who won 55 kg freestyle wrestling title from another Japanese loser.

    …absolutely IPPON…..
    WITHOUT ANY DOUBT.
It is unbelivable, that suzuki hasn’t remark this in time….

trust me kai at his level and prep suzuki is familiar with it all but everyone can get caught

bad call imo the ref was watching if it was going to be in or out, not his job by the way

viedo review would be nice AT THE OLYMPICS!
what a shame yuko at best Suzuki’s spirit was broken Tubshinbayar’s was lifted

    Is Ipon.

  13. franklin cisneros Says:
    August 20th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

yep.. it is an ippon when he was lifted last he (the japanese) judoka had a feet ONE feet inbounds and so it counts as a score.. and at least it was a wazari.. but you could give it an ippon. Personally, as a referee I have refeereed before.. I would give it a wazari.

  18. Lori Says:
    August 24th, 2008 at 10:26 am

Both athletes were very good, but, it was not an ippon for me. I am a continental referee. In the new rule of refereeing, when the attempt happens inside the mat and progressed to falling of one the athletes outside, it must constitute a score (if the throw is valid). However, in this case, the referee was too far that he didnt see that only Suzuki’s butt fell off on the mats. The highest point should be yuko only. In my own personal opinion, it should only be koka. Unfortunately, the judge who was too close to to the athletes didnt react to correct the referee’s judgement. The last part of slowmo in the video will prove all of it.

  20. Rob Says:
    August 24th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

Nippon landed on his butt, not on his back worth a yuko tops.Only one foot inside the zone. Not worth an ippon. Should have been consulted to the corner’s referees.

it doesn’t matter now that it was ippon or not. who won the olympic is what matters the most. after all, someone (new and young) beating soundly the champion is the beaty of judo, isn’t it? that is the thing people are willing to see on tatami. why here people are crying for the losing champion and arguing for not being ippon. it is natural that a new champs are emerging and beating the old ones.

  23. Robert Says:
    August 27th, 2008 at 1:42 pm

Its just sad to see this guy win this match and the olympics because his judo is not good. He is just short which makes him difficult to throw and has a boring bent over style.

but ippon is too much at least waza-ari, there are not the conditions for ippon, one for all the total control…
in a normal national fight with no important fighters…. maybe also yuko!
petrol oil? oh yeah I’m sure!!, but this is not important for the judgement!

  27. DDT Says:

Not smaller but shorter who is about 150 cm weighing 100 kg and sniffs the mat all the time.
Im sad someone hasnt developed a strategy to beat this kind of boring Judo.

  32. Stan Says:
    August 30th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

    Robert!

As a judo fan for many years, I have to disagree with you. He is not that small 177cm, and he has introduced a different technique to which everybody was not ready. He has beaten all of his opponents one by one, and even Suzuki himself aknowledged his loss. Suzuki afterwards also said that he was beaten by a better athlete and that he wasn’t prepared.

To those of you who say it wasn’t ippon, maybe it wasn’t, but the throw was spectacular, and in most cases such falls are awarded ippon.

    Again congrats to the Mongolian.

  34. Robert Says:
    August 31st, 2008 at 4:18 pm

Obviously he has skills otherwise he wouldnt have won the Olympics. Im just saying he has a boring style. Everytime they grip he bends over and make it difficult for his opponents to execute any throw + plus his short built compared to the others in -100 category. Its not new we have seen several others utilizing the same style. Muneta also has a shorter built compared to his opponents but his Judo is much more spectacular, upright and positive.
I dont think this style should be banned, others should just have to work out a strategy to beat this style.

I’ve heard somewhere that the Mongolians are the tallest people in Asia. And also, they are the strongest people in the World. This is mainly because of their diet and their lifestyle. And also, because of their diet, their life expectancy is very low.

  36. juan Says:
    September 4th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

  37. franklin cisneros Says:

Yeah, he should make it easy for his opponents
Mongolian national wrestling is one of the most advanced types of wrestling and has many hundred years of history. Compared to that, judo is originated over hundred years ago. Mongolian wrestlers will continue to use their techniques in judo as long as rules permits. I think it’s the way judo will continue developing.

    Guys,
It is really good IPPON, no doubt. Also want to say the case was not sudden one. Suzuki’s second time loss within the Tuvshinbayar. Want to say that mongolians good wrestlers from their born. Yokozuna/Champ Asashouru in SUMO, he is mongolian , Davaajargal also mongolian and champ/Yokozuna in SUMO. Right now no Japanese Yokozuna in SUMO. The SUMO is traditional Japanese kind of wrestling. That’s why don’t blame about him. He is mongolian, he came from country of Genghis Khan which invaded whole world in middle century.

  48. Another Mongol Says:
    December 18th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Who wants to judge whom. Tuvshinbayar has only been training in judo for 6 years, his technique is based on mongolian wrestling. Don’t know how many years Suzuki has done judo. I like Suzuki, he is amazing, but Tuvshinbayar is real champion, he had to won 4 more matchs successfully with injured knee and showlder.

  49. orson Says:
    December 27th, 2008 at 10:43 pm

El judo tradicional debería ofrecer respuesta a los “agarrapatas”. Un portento técnico como Suzuki no puede perder con alguien que va a agarrarle las piernas y empujar con la cabeza.

I am so proud of Tuwshinbayar. And i do respect Suzuki because asian 100kg was on his shoulder in world tatami. He is already done very well Now Tuwshinbayar s time. Tuwshinbayar has only one enemy who called Ileadis(GEO). I d never forget this moment. Congrulation all Mongolians

It seems you don’t know anything about Greco-Roman. This technique is not allowed in Greco-Roman. It is not allowed to attack the oppenets legs mate!
I can understand that you don’t know the name of the technique! Because you don’t know judo, and you are not Japanese. You should watch all 5 matchs of him in Beijing Olympics before you type your poor comments!
