why shido xexe referre has no idea about judo!no chance for ippon
    minimum yuko.

It’s ridiculous to say things like that about referees, ans particularly about this one: M.Rashwan was olympic medalist a few years ago… and you?
The problem here is, what’s the difference between waza and ippon? It has to be 50 percent of Iliadis’ back against the mat to give ippon! Perhaps or perhaps not…difficult to say. My own idea? Waza, but i will never say that Mohammed Rashwan does’nt know judo… I saw against Verichev, Saito, etc… a great egyptian champion!!! A belgian judoka!

  14. wiliam Says:
    August 13th, 2008 at 2:09 pm

It s not ippon and referee was wrong, even he is olympic medalist… But anything can happen and my personal opinion is that Mark Huizinga control the match.

  15. enry Says:

it is was wazari. they are good judokas, but tsirekidze is the best

    wazari

  17. kenken Says:
    August 13th, 2008 at 3:46 pm

    Ippon!
Most of you pay attention only a moment after the impact when Illiades sits on his bottom. Look closely at the first moment of impact – he touches ground with his back and bottom, only then sits back.

  18. kenken Says:
    August 13th, 2008 at 3:49 pm

…could be waza-ari as well, though.

  19. Robert Says:
    August 13th, 2008 at 5:06 pm

The referee was not good. It should have been Waza ari on he the throw. The referee ends way too quick when Huizinga wanted to do some groundwork.

  20. Simon Says:
    August 13th, 2008 at 6:49 pm

I don’t mind the ref’s deicision to go with ippon. What I found most unfortunate was that he didn’t let the fighters (specially Huizinga) fight in on the ground. I think twice Huizinga showed some signs of being upset and I agree. He was controlling and progressing on the ground in my opinion and the ref should let just a bit more time. In particular when you know what Huizinga can do on the ground, you know he’s not sitting aroung just to gain time on the clock.

  21. rob Says:
    August 13th, 2008 at 7:06 pm

what a weak call. That was a wazari at best. The calls they make these days are shit.

  22. master Says:
    August 13th, 2008 at 7:35 pm

ippon or no ippon, if it was a wazari, and with just less than one minute to go, the dutch guy would have won the fight too, he is wise and old enough (4th olympics) to win the game with a wazari on the board.

however, its too bad that both guys didnt came further…

looking forward to tomorrow, when the other european champion from the netherlands, henk grol, will play…

    cheers

Mr Alex go to watch the 66 men final and understand why ref Rashwan is NOT a good ref.A bad call is a bad call, even if is God in person is refering

  27. S.Vicent Says:

    Es wazari.

  28. franklin cisneros Says:
    August 14th, 2008 at 4:16 am

yea.. that was so a wazari for sure.. yuko is too low.. anyways.. the match is really boring they were called for it though… a lot of force and very little technique.

I did not like the ippon but I fought guys that big before and he is probably strong has good technique.. but I just don’t happen to like the style of his judo.

    personal comment of course.

  29. Novan Says:

i am wondering my friend alex, where did you see his back down. so many people say that wasn’t ippon but you, believe your mind. and lets not forget his personal drama with his family. as you all know he is from georgia and 5.000 people have killed. its very hard to fight after all.

    thierry

  37. dimitris Says:
    August 18th, 2008 at 12:39 pm

My opinion is no shido at first because there was a throwing action, and of course no ippon but the maximum wazari.
Mr Rashwan was a great player but he needs a lot of work to be olympic ref

  38. zb Says:
    August 18th, 2008 at 2:56 pm

why shido first of all to iliades??? he hold the belt no less than 4 seconds and he throw….ok,, and then he try again with another one!! where is mark? where his effort to throw? to make an attack… thats why iliades open his match and try to throw him,,.so the rest if tits yuko or ippon does not matter. ref destroy the match..and if somebody is a good athlete does not mean tha he is a good ref.. or a good trainer!!! athelte is an athlete and ref is a ref!!! iliades is much more better athlete and never mind because mark won..

  39. Ermont Says:
    August 19th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

    never mind the score.
point to take from this for Lliadis (and us),
is not to take kumi kata over the shoulder with such a tall and long opponent.
as soon as he stretched over his reach and center of gravity(ma-ay)Mark sensed it and moved nicely.
anyway this is very nice judo.

  40. Alexander The Great Says:
    August 20th, 2008 at 5:36 am

I thought Iliadis is gonna be the Olympic Champion. We gotta admit that LUCK has become an essential element, particularly in Judo. The refs will KO you before your opponent can solidly land you on the tatami. I hope to see Iliadis in the next Olympics.

  42. Osaka Says:
    August 28th, 2008 at 1:44 am

I have a question?? why didn’ t the two other ref. interfer to cancel the ippon and make it wazari or even yuko….??Seems that the three of them are quite sure that it was an ippon and therefore M.Rashwan made the right decision, right??

    yuko or waza-ari

  65. psycho Says:
    January 25th, 2010 at 11:39 pm

yuko or wazari – the attack was originally motivated by uke. Tori had been fairly passive prior to his uchi mata – which was far from tidy but nice! I’d have given wazari making it an even score and looking for a final takedown. Thank god this wasn’t soccer. The fans would have torched their benches..!

  66. Stefan Says:
