    grip and throw, quite easy^^

  13. Bin NZ Says:
    August 12th, 2008 at 12:06 am

no way that’s an ippon. he blatantly lands on his side. An ippon is defined as “a throw that lands the opponent largely on their back in a controlled manner with speed and force”. Wang bridged with his head and landed on his shoulder and side, not ‘largely on his back’. Nice throw, and he’d have probably won anyway but unfortunately for the spectators, the ref got it wrong.

  14. Judoka1234 Says:
    August 12th, 2008 at 12:56 am

This is not ippon( and not sukui nage!). Yuko or wasaari, I say.

  15. Midori Says:
    August 12th, 2008 at 1:01 am

    Definetly ippon!

  16. João Goulart Says:
    August 12th, 2008 at 1:25 am

It´s dificult for the ref. but Elnur is a fair winer i think. Very strong.

  17. Jimmie Says:
    August 12th, 2008 at 1:42 am

I believe it is against the rules to land in a bridge. I’ve noticed most refs call an ippon instead of bothering to hansoku-make the person landing in a bridge, because they would have landed flat on their back anyway if they hadn’t violated the rules.

And I believe the technique is kuchiki-taoshi, it’s in my Kodokan Judo book so guess it counts as judo. His kumikata and kuzushi were near simultaneous. This is something my sensei have encouraged since I was a kid, it’s called attacking off the grip and it applies to any technique. His technique and timing where excellent and unlike many of the more classical looking judoka in this tournament he was practicing “positive judo.”

  18. NZJudka Says:

technique definately kuchiki-taoshi, great waza great ippon

  24. wensen Says:
    August 12th, 2008 at 4:30 pm

this is not Judo… this more like wrestling or Sambo….but they are simply using international judo rules…

The actual Judo rules are killing the true Judo..

Do you want to see “true” Judo ? look at the final Decosse(Fra)/Tanimoto(Jap)
this is true Judo (Beijing) !! Maximum Efficacity…

  25. VF Says:
    August 12th, 2008 at 7:39 pm

I’m totally agree with you wensen ; I don’t say that Elnur is not a champion…yes he ’s very strong, but this is international judo at this moment, and it’s not the Judo that I prefer…with a clear and perfect technic as Tanimoto ; doing a real sen-no-sen uchi-mata with with maximum efficacity and using decosse’s force…great movement…great Judo

  26. Edward Says:
    August 12th, 2008 at 7:47 pm

Full bridge = ippon; half bridge( person is mostly on one of his sides) = waza ari
So Elnur’s throw was an definite and excellent ippon

With the new rules, this is not a ippon and Mamadli should be punished with a shido, because it´s not permited to grap the trousers anymore.

    Dear Friends,

If zou do not understand Judo regulations then its better to shut up! Elnur was brilliant….Well done mate

  52. Ferry Says:
    August 28th, 2009 at 5:30 pm

elnur wasnt great but lucky to get the ippon.
if you watch the replay, the korean didnt bridged but turned on his head and after that falling for an waza-ari at maximum.
I can understand the disappointment of the korean because he is the better one of the two. (winning the WC @ Rotterdam yesterday) and also Tokyo, Paris, Moscow and another one.

In a rematch with the current rules, elnur will lose.

  53. familyman familyman Says:
    September 17th, 2009 at 2:29 pm

Well… I am really disappointed because I think Ki-Chun Wang is a better judoka than Elnur. Ki-Chun Wang is the best in the U73kg category, no question about it. As Ferry pointed out, he won the last WC in Rotterdam and won many other Grand Slams.

    Regarding Elnur’s technique here, I wouldn’t give an ippon but a Waza-ari.

Elnur was really lucky, because he does more wrestling than real judo.

Anyway, it’s sad he was not able to make it to the last WC in Rotterdam so we could have had a re-fight against Ki-Chun Wang.

  61. Gavin Says:
    May 10th, 2010 at 4:29 am

Guys, You all need to learn judo rules the reason why it IS Ippon is in a move by the IJF to prevent serious injury to Judoka as they become more athletic bridging became more popular to avoid ippon as the back did not touch, however this raises the chance of serious spinal injuries. To prevent this a rule was enacted which stated that when a judoka bridged to prevent his back touching the mat when cleanly thrown ippon was to be scored so the referees got it spot on.
