The idea is to win the match! Not to make a demonstration of nice throws, well, for me I don’t like the idea of picking up the opponent and throwing him on his back, it’s looks like we are lifting just heavyweight not the idea of judo at all, which is throwing someone stronger with a sample techniques. But still as I said, pickups, still the way of winning the matchs!!

#8 (Osaka) … Wrong. Sooo wrong, and the IJF is planning to eject all of them (except maybe for Kata Guruma and some others) out of the rules after the Olympics.

    @ Eduardo..

    I dont believe that..
Banning certain throws (like the scissor throw) etc has been done in the past, but banning a whole series of throws (pickups in this matter), I don’t think that will ever happen..

Current banned techniques are banned for a reason: they can be dangerous.
Banning a series of throws because you don’t like them, thats just nonsense..

pickups are a huge factor in judo and vital component to the art of the samurai. whoever says pickups are not part of judo is close minded who wont progress to the next level of their game.

Pickups are judo. Anybody saying otherwise is just a bitter elitist.

Maybe the haters should go tell Robert Van De Walle that pickups are not judo and he has no judo/ugly judo and he sucks. We’ll see how long you last on the mat to his ugly, no-skill judo.
